After a month-long trial, a St. Catharines jury needed less than five hours to decide Loujack Café was guilty of 1st degree murder in the 2011 death of George Burnett at his home in Hamilton.

After the verdict was read, and the jury dismissed, Café’s lawyer requested a not criminally responsible due to insanity hearing.  But the judge rejected the motion, saying the defence had not said anything before about insanity and the jury had already been discharged.

When asked if there was anything he’d like to say before he was sentenced, Café said -quote – “I am Sevil Evening Star Fitzyaweh, a demi-god above human law.”

Before he could continue, the judge cut him off and sentenced him to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Café had confessed to killing 82-year-old George Burnett, saying he was lashing out against voices in his head.  But on the witness stand he changed significant parts of his story.

Café also faces another first degree murder charge in the death of 37-year-old Laura Young, as well as charges of randomly stabbing four people in downtown Hamilton.

He’s due back in court February 8, 2016.
