A veteran Halton Police staff sergeant has been arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence.
Staff Sergeant Brad Murray, who’s been on the force for 16 years and lead Halton Police’s Drug Unit for three years, is facing several charges including theft, breach of trust and obstruction of justice.
Murray’s arrest follows a seven month independent investigation by Toronto Police after an audit by Halton Police revealed about 30 exhibits, mainly of the opioid OxyContin, had been tampered with.
Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner said that Murray has been suspended with pay, with the maximum penalty of termination if he’s convicted. Chief Tanner added that due to the arrest, a number of drug related trials have been stayed by the prosecution.
Murray’s first court appearance will be on June 27 in a Milton court.
