Locke is a dramatic thriller directed by Steven Knight. Tom Hardy stars as Ivan Locke, a construction foreman driving from Birmingham to London after a day at work. Over the course of his trip, he fields phone calls in his car from family, friends, and co-workers, all dealing with his unravelling personal and professional lives. Hardy, the only on-screen talent, is backed by a voice cast that includes British actresses Olivia Colman (Hot Fuzz) and Ruth Wilson (The Lone Ranger, Luther).

Having a single location for the shoot – the car – made the production short but deceptively difficult. The film was shot in eight nights, but they only had Hardy for six. The film’s producer, Guy Heeley explained the tight production schedule saying “It couldn’t go wrong. We had to cover every single base. Given that on paper it was one of the simplest films I’ve ever been involved with, it was one of the longest production meetings I’ve ever been in.” While Hardy was in the shoot vehicle, the voice actors talked with him from a hotel room in London. Knight had the cast treat the shoot like a play, and told them that, “if something goes wrong, deal with it, as you would on stage.” And according to him, “they did that brilliantly.”

Locke is rated 14A.
