Local police react to Dallas shooting

It was a somber mood in police stations across Ontario after the violence in Dallas. Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner says violence against police is part of the job, but anytime tragedy happens to one police force it affects all who live to serve and protect.
Locally, just last week, Halton Police officers were called to a disturbance on Plains Road and the violence was automatic. There was no opportunity to speak to the individual before it started. Two officers were attacked, one was stabbed in the neck and face, the other was bitten viciously by a person with a variety of issues. The police used a taser to knock the man down and he is now being assessed by doctors.
Tanner says that, overall, there is a big cultural difference between Canada and the United States.
“The firearms rules are so different. If I were a police officer in the States, I would have to assume that 90% of the people are armed.”
Chief Stephen Tanner says Dallas Police have to deal with a more volatile society than we do, but sometimes American problems spill over the border.
