Local partnership donates $20k to Hamilton Food Share

Hamilton Food Share received a generous gift just in time for Christmas. SC & S Scaffolding and Carpenters Union Local 27 presented a $20,000 cheque to Hamilton Food Share on Monday.
“We’re not super people, we’re just normal guys. We work for a living and get our hands dirty but this is what we thought was the right thing to do,” Scott Canning of SC & S Scaffolding said.
Hamilton Food Share has been in operation for over 30 years and provides food resources to 16 member agencies.
Hamilton Food Share CEO Joanne Santucci says the organization can make the donation actually become five times bigger, “every dollar donated to Hamilton Food Share raises $5 worth of food. We’re going to turn this into $100,000 and get it out for Christmas supports that are really needed this Christmas season.”
A report released by Feed Ontario today says nearly 600,000 people received emergency food support last year. This is the sixth year in a row food bank use has risen.
Rory Smith of Carpenters Local 27 says, “these are our communities. Our friends and families are affected by this, construction workers in the region are affected.”
Although Monday’s donation will be a huge help, there’s always room for more support.
The holiday train will be at Gage Park Tuesday at 8 p.m. There will be a concert for families and the event is free. Hamilton Food Share will be collecting non-perishable goods.
