Local hydro workers go south to help
Several local hydro utilities sent workers to New York City on Sunday to help with clean up efforts after Hurricane Sandy.
Seven workers from Halton Hills hydro had already left Saturday with trucks and equipment headed to Long Island, New York.
The Halton Hills team joined other hydro workers from Milton, Guelph, Orangeville, Cambridge North Dumfries, Centre Wellington, Hamilton (Horizon), Kitchener-Wilmot, Kingston and Waterloo.
Nine Burlington Hydro workers, including a safety supervisor, joined eight of their counter-parts from Oakville Hydro in a convoy that crossed the border early Sunday morning for New York City.
The request was coordinated through the Electricity Distributors Association.
They will likely be helping in the area for the next two weeks.
Power is still out to over 640,000 residents since Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast last week.
