Listeria found in unlicensed daycare

A deadly bacteria has been found in food at the unlicensed Vaughan daycare centre where a toddler died in July.
Eva Ravikovich was just two years old. The coroner has not yet released her cause of death, but records from York Region Public Health show food analyzed from the daycare contained listeria, which can cause sepsis and meningitis.
The records were obtained by the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care under the Freedom of Information act.
Five complaints about the daycare were filed with the education ministry, but only one was followed up on. Last month, Eva’s parents filed a $3.5 million lawsuit against the Ministry and Daycare owner, Oleena Panfilova.
