Brothers John and Mike Josipovic were each sentenced today to life in prison for the second-degree murder of Lou Malone, a former Hells Angels member. The brothers have no eligibility of parole for 13 years. While Mike still maintains his innocence the Malone family thinks they should have gotten a longer sentence.

Rod Malone’s older brother Lou was killed by a shotgun blast to the head in November 2013. John and Mike Josipovic are eligible to appeal for parole on November.18, 2026 13 years after the incident.

Police say Malone was shot in Hamilton’s east end. The shooting took place less than an hour after Malone beat up Mike Josipovic outside Main Billiards. Mike Josipovic says he played no part in helping to kill Lou Malone. His brother John says he had no option but to kill Malone who he claimed terrorized his family.

The courtroom was filled with family members and friends of both the defendants and the victim. John and Mike were given the opportunity to speak before the verdict was read. John apologized to his family for letting them down, Mike maintained his innocence.

Justice Harrison Arrell said the facts of this murder are particularly disturbing and that “vigilante justice is not part of Canadian society.”

The brothers’ defence was that the killing was a result of provocation and had been committed in self-defence.
