Liberal Government apologizing for SAMS

The Liberal Government is apologizing for the mess created by its new computer program that distributes provincial welfare cheques.

A report released today makes 19 recommendations on how to improve “SAMS.”

Community and Social Services Minister Helena Jaczek says she is truly sorry.

She’s apologizing for the government’s $270 million problem plagued SAMS computer system, that distributes welfare and disability support payments in Ontario.

A report commissioned by the liberal government makes 19 recommendations to improve SAMS including better training for front-line staff and appointing a program manager.

Jaczek admits she underestimated the impact that SAMS would have on front-line staff and the amount of training they needed.

Jaczek says she will implement all 19 recommendations outlined in today’s report but says she still doesn’t know how much that will cost.
