Leafs fan turns disappointment into song

From jersey tossing to wearing bags over their heads, Toronto Maple Leafs fans have showed their frustration at the team’s performance this year in several ways. But a Brantford singer songwriter has turned to youtube, and in an amusing parody, captured the feelings of so many in Leafs Nation tonight.
Leaf fans, you finally have a voice, and it sounds pretty good. For Steven Ryan, music is his life…hockey however? He’s a bit new to the game.
“At first I wasn’t what you would call a hockey fanatic until I was introduced to my fiancee’s family about six years ago. And it was kind of impossible not to become a Leaf’s fan.”
But lately, being a leafs fan requires a high disappointment threshold, so Steven decided to put pain to paper.
“We were in a little bit of a slump, we were sad, had a case of beer and wrote the song”
The song stayed on the back burner for a while, that is, until the Leafs lost their tenth straight on Tuesday.
“It just got to this pinnacle where it was like, ‘people need to feel our pain’.”
So Steven released his song and in less than 40 hours, boom.
“At one point it reached a hundred thousand views then up by 10-thousand and here we are.”
Despite the fact that Steven’s video has almost half a million views, don’t expect to see one of his parody videos any time soon. He is a real artist and wants to flex his musical muscle, that is, unless the leafs win one of these.
“If somebody said, ‘we’ll pay you this much or give you this much to just make parody videos, i’d probably tell them to take a walk.”
While Steve doesn’t see any more parodies in his future, he’s hopeful he’ll see more leaf victories
“I’m just going to put my faith in them and hope that they make the right decisions. And hopefully we do make that run we’ve been waiting for for a long time.”
