Jonathan Bernier was seeking his first win of the season in goal with James Reimer hurt.

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals in town.

Early in the first, Capitals with a 2 on 1, Jason Chimera keeps it and scores, 1-0 Capitals.

Leafs respond three minutes later. A loose puck in front and Peter Holland buries it to tie it at one.

Second period, just four minutes in, a miscue between Beriner and Morgan Reilly. Tom Wilson is there and scores. 2-1 Caps.

But again, the Leafs respond on the powerplay. “Uncle Leo”, Leo Komarov ties a career high with his 8th of the year and we are tied once again.

Later in the frame, Caps on the powerplay and Ovechkin with the shot, it goes off Marcus Johansson. 3-2 Washington.

Then two minutes later, again on the powerplay, Justin Williams scores.

There would be no goals in the 3rd period.

Bernier, poor Bernier, goes to 0-8-1 on the year.

Final score, Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 2.

Toronto will host the Edmonton Oilers on Monday before going on the road for three games.
