Late night fire in Hamilton industrial building

A large area was blocked off to the public as firefighters responded to a blaze in a small building with garbage in it late Thursday night in Hamilton’s industrial area.

Firefighters say they arrived to visible flames at 735 Strathearne Avenue just before 10:30 pm.  They remained on scene for several hours.

Thompson Waste Transfer and Hamilton Recycling are located at that address.

Police blocking off the area were wearing masks as a precaution as it was unclear what substances were burning.

The cause of the blaze is still unknown.
