Lane restriction takes effect on Hamilton’s Claremont Access

Lane restrictions on Hamilton’s Claremont Access will take effect starting Monday.

The left-most lane heading up the Claremont Access will be temporarily closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. until May 3.

The closure will begin approximately 360 metres west of Arkledun Avenue.

The Claremont Access is one of Hamilton’s primary routes connecting the mountain with the lower core. It is also an arterial connection to Upper James Street, which leads to the city’s airport, John C. Munroe.

The city says motorists can expect minor delays.

Over the last few years, the Claremont Access has undergone numerous repairs to shore up the unstable and crumbling escarpment edge.

In 2023, the city had to completely shut down the downbound lanes after part of the steel walls buckled and gave way to erosion.
