Monday marks the seventh anniversary of the Lac-Megantic rail disaster.

On July 6, 2013, a runaway train hauling tanker cars loaded with volatile crude oil derailed and exploded.

47 people were killed and a large part of the downtown area was destroyed.

Officials will mark the anniversary with the inauguration of a memorial space.

It’s taken three years to build the memorial.

It will be set up at the site of the former Musi-Cafe in the heart of the town, where staff and patrons made up many of the victims.

The bells of Ste-Agnes Church will ring at noon in tribute to the victims.
