Killers of Hamilton antiques dealer sentenced

The killers of a Hamilton man have been sentenced.

Matthew and George Cooke were found guilty of manslaughter and robbery in March. Jesse Kovacs, 56, was a former Locke St antiques dealer killed in December 2011 after two Port Hope men – an uncle and nephew – broke into his apartment to rob him.

George Cooke has been sentenced to 12 years; he’s been credited with time served so he’ll have another seven years in prison. Matthew has been sentenced to 10 years; with time served he’ll have to serve 4 years and 10 months.

They apologized to the family at their sentencing hearing today.
