Based on true accounts, Kill the Messenger  follows the life of investigative journalist Gary Webb during and after the publication of his Dark Alliance articles. The San Jose Mercury News reporter rose to fame following the publication of his articles that documented the United States Government’s allegiances with foreign drug cartels in order to finance CIA operations.  He was soon the target of a media smear campaign designed to discredit his findings.

Renner, who also produced the picture, stars as Webb. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Oliver Platt appear as his editors, while Rosemarie DeWitt co-stars as his wife. The film also features Paz Vega, Andy Garcia, Barry Pepper, Michael Sheen, Tim Blake Nelson, and Ray Liotta. Kill the Messenger is directed by Michael Cuesta (Homeland, Dexter) and is rated 14A.
