Kathleen Wynne announces new photo radar legislation

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced new legislation that would target unsafe drivers in Ontario.
If passed, the new law would give municipalities more tools to improve safety and decrease the severity of pedestrian-vehicle collisions in urban areas.
“We have seen too many injuries and deaths caused by drivers who speed and endanger people’s lives,” said Wynne during a press conference in Ottawa on Tuesday morning.
The new measures would include giving cities the ability to create zones with reduced speed limits and implement the use of Automated speed enforcement (ASE) technology, which takes pictures of speeders’ licence plates.
It also focuses on streamlining the process for municipalities to utilize Ontario’s Red Light Camera program without the need for lengthy regulatory approval.
Minister of Transportation, Steven Del Duca says municipalities have been fighting for tougher measures to combat dangerous drivers. “These measures would strengthen road safety in school zones and help municipalities keep their communities safe.”
