Kadar Omar’s killer sentenced to life in prison

The man convicted of killing Kadar Omar in his Hamilton apartment nearly three years ago has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for at least 15 years.

33-year old Omar bled to death in his bathtub after being stabbed in his King Street West apartment in March of 2013.

The jury had heard that Omar and 30 year old Zacharias Thibeault were friends and drug users, and that Omar was a crack dealer.

The crown argued that Thibeault was desperate for money and killed Omar for the 10 to 20-thousand dollars he was seen with shortly before he was killed.

While the defence claimed all of the evidence was circumstantial, it was apparently enough for the jury, who late last night returned a guilty verdict after less than two days of deliberations.
