Day three of jury selection in the Tim Bosma murder trial ended today.

The accused, Dellen Millard and Mark Smich watch each potential juror go by, occasionally smiling. Many people have been excused for knowing the victim, and one of those Tim Bosma family friends today muttered at Millard and Smich as he was leaving. Several others have been overcome with nerves as they speak to the judge. One woman said she just couldn’t do it “I know it’s a silly excuse, but my hands are shaking just standing here talking to you.” she said. She was not the only one who visibly trembled under the pressure.

Many people were excused for other medical issues or for financial hardship. Several people since Monday have said they’ve been directly affected by other murders, and don’t feel they would be emotionally capable to serve. Several others have said they’ve been so disturbed by Tim Bosma’s story, they don’t think they could be impartial.

Tomorrow the second phase of jury selection will start, the potential jurors who agreed to serve will now be tested by the lawyers and accepted or dismissed as jurors. Even though the potentials have been whittled down to those who can serve, this process is expected to take a lot longer. People today who agreed to serve were asked to come back Friday. If they don’t find a full panel, then next week a whole new pool of jurors may be called upon to start this process over again.
