Johnston to announce decision on public inquiry into foreign interference at 12 p.m.

VIDEO: Former governor general David Johnston is set to make an announcement at 12 p.m., as he unveils an interim report that will determine the necessity of a public inquiry into the alleged Chinese interference during the past two federal elections.
For months, Parliament Hill has been debating if there should be a public inquiry into whether the governing Liberals did enough to confront claims of Chinese interference in the 2019 and 2021 elections.

Johnston’s mandate includes assessing the extent and impact of foreign interference in Canadian elections, as well as making broader recommendations.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre refused to meet with Johnston, saying he has no credibility.
On the other hand, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh describes Johnston as non-partisan and trustworthy.
