John Greene to get assessment

The Hamilton man who pleaded guilty to abducting and sexually assaulting a 7-year old girl was back in court Monday.
We were expecting John Adam Greene to be sentenced. But his sentencing hearing has been put over until May 11th. That’s because the crown is applying to have him considered a “dangerous offender” and he’ll now need to be assessed by a psychiatrist. Before we tell you any more information a warning — the details of this case may not be suitable for all viewers.
29-year old John Adam Greene, wearing an orange jumpsuit, was escorted into the courtroom by two police officers.
He spoke briefly to his 3-year old daughter and her mother who were both there.
He didn’t say much other than agreeing to the remand for the crown’s dangerous offender request and a psychiatric assessment.
He’s pleaded guilty to several charges including attempted murder and sexual interference after he brought a 7-year old girl inside an apartment near Sanford Avenue on May 17th, hit her, sexually assaulted her and choked her until she went unconscious.
According to the agreed statement of facts, he thought he killed her and doused her in bleach in an attempt to destroy evidence.
His girlfriend came home and he took off and later turned himself into police.
She was also in court today and told CHCH News that when she saw him her ‘body was filled with hatred’ and she was ‘disgusted’. She says she now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and not a day goes by that she doesn’t think about the little girl.
She said that Greene was physically abusive towards her as well.
We spoke to Greene’s lawyer afterwards and she says he wants to be as cooperative as possible
When the sentencing resumes on May 11th, it will be a full sentencing hearing and could take up to 2 weeks and hear from witnesses depending on what the psychiatric assessment says.
