Jobless rate rises
Economy shaves 54-thousand Canadian jobs as unemployment rate jumps to 7.3%.
After a strong job creation month in September, the economy gave most of those back in October, shedding 54,000 workers overall and 71,700 full-time jobs.
The result means for the last four months, employment in Canada has basically been non-existent.
Last month’s losses came primarily in the manufacturing and construction trades, and mostly in Ontario.
The agency says natural resources, with a pick-up of about 12,000, was the only industry to report a notable gain in employment in October.
Regionally, half the provinces experienced a contraction in employment last month, with Ontario leading the way with a loss of 38,700 workers and dip of 75,400 in the full-time category.
