Jessie Carruthers celebrated a milestone birthday yesterday by turning 100 years old. But the gift this Welland baseball fan wanted most, was the A.L Division Series win delivered yesterday afternoon by the Toronto Blue Jays. As Lauran Sabourin tells us, the Blue Jays also had a special surprise for Jessie.

Walking into her apartment it’s obvious Jessie Carruthers is a huge Blue Jays fan. Jessie turned 100 years old on Wednesday. They had a big party for her at her seniors First Avenue Retirement home in Welland. But the icing on the cake for her was the big package delivered from the Blue Jays. They sent her a jersey, a cap, a water bottle…and a framed photo of Jose Bautista, her favourite player

It was CHCH sports anchor Ken Welch who told the Blue Jays about Jessie’s 100th birthday.

Jessie’s friend Florence was with her when she received her gift. “Can you imagine the Blue Jays gave her a present? And it wasn’t the gifts. It was the fact they won last night – big time. She loved it.”

Especially the Bautista home run that secured the A.L Division series victory.
