Richard Linklater’s ground breaking film follows the life of a young boy as he grows from kindergarten to entering college. The film introduces Ellar Coltrane as Mason and Lorilei Linklater as his sister Samantha – roles they played for 12 years during the unconventional filming of this project. Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke both received Golden Globe & SAG nominations for their supporting roles as Mason’s divorced parents. The film is beautifully crafted and tells a universal story in an utterly unique way. Boyhood was one of our favourite films of 2014 it is rated 14A.

The life and times of James Brown stars Chadwick Boseman as the singer. Get On Up follows the R&B legend from his childhood to his death. The film captures the evolution of both the man and his music, it’s got a killer soundtrack and wonderful performances. For more on the film, check out our review.

Dan Stevens stars as the mysterious David, an unexpected guest at the Peterson home. When Anna Peterson (Maika Monroe) looks into the past of her parent’s new house guest she finds he isn’t exactly who he says he is. The newest from director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, The Guest was the closing night film of TIFF2014’s Midnight Madness program.

No Good Deed is a crime horror directed by Sam Miller (Luther). The film tells the story of Terry, a former district attorney who now spends her time raising her two children. One night while her husband is out of town, a stranger comes to her door asking for help after his car ran off the road nearby. Charming and handsome as he is, Terry has him wait outside while she gets him the phone, but the man isn’t interested in waiting and forces his way in. This unassuming stranger is actually a homicidal madman. Now Terry must protect her kids and herself from this vicious sociopath. The film stars Taraji P. Henson and Idris Elba.
No Good Deed is rated 14A.
Archer Season 5
Season five of the hit FX series Archer hits home video shelves this Tuesday. The fifth season sees the employees of spy agency ISIS get into the drug trafficking business after they are shut down by the federal government for their unsanctioned espionage. The show features the vocal talents of H. Jon Benjamin, Judy Greer, Aisha Tyler, Chris Parnell and Jessica Walter.
