Investigation Into Crash At Pearson

The Transportation Safety Board launched an investigation after a crash between two planes on the tarmac at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport last night that sent an airport firefighter to hospital.

A WestJet Boeing 737 aircraft carrying 168 passengers and six crew members had just arrived from Cancun and was waiting to park at a gate when it was hit by an empty Sunwing plane that was being towed. It clipped the wing of the WestJet aircraft and the tail of the Sunwing plane caught fire.

WesJet passengers were forced to evacuate the plane by emergency slides because of the position of the aircraft on the laneway.

As a result there were many flight cancellations and frustrated travelers had to make alternate arrangements overnight.

In a statement they say the incident last night had only a minor impact on airport operations and the on-site investigation has been completed.

However, the investigation is ongoing.
