Interac: Today expected to be busiest shopping day of the year

According to new data released by Interac, December 23rd marks the busiest shopping day of the year. Canadians are expected to spend over $1 billion dollars on both last-minute gift items and food for their holiday feasts.
Last year on December 23rd, Canadians made over 21-million transactions, spending more than $1-billion dollars, beating out both Black Friday and Christmas Eve.
Of all the purchases made last year on this day, grocery stores accounted for nearly $220 million dollars spent, discount retailers accounted for close to $90 million and stores selling beer, wine and liquor came in at just under $75 million.
