Inquest into Mesic death

An inquest is being launched into the death of Steve Mesic.

The 45-year old was shot and killed by Hamilton police in June.   Ontario’s special investigations unit said police were justified in shooting Mesic, after he refused to drop the shovel he was wielding.   His family claims there are discrepancies in the SIU’s report on the incident.   The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mesic’s death and the jury will make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
