Inquest into death of 23-year-old at Hamilton jail set to begin April 7

Hamilton’s coroner has confirmed an inquest into the death of a 23-year old man at Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre is scheduled to begin April 7.
Brennan Tyler Bowley died Jan. 18, 2018 while in custody at the jail, only 48 hours after his arrest. An autopsy concluded he died of an accidental drug overdose.
Bowley’s parents believe their son was hiding a package of cocaine inside his body, which they suspect started to leak after his arrest.

They allege he was denied life-saving medical care by police and detention staff.
An inquest into the circumstances surrounding Bowley’s death is mandatory under the Coroners Act. It is expected to last ten days and hear from approximately 20 witnesses.
