Industrial fire in Buffalo
A huge industrial fire in Buffalo Wednesday was still burning after six hours.
The smoke from the blaze was so intense, it’s easily visible from the Fort Erie side of the Niagara river.
Traffic over the Peace Bridge was not affected but the four alarm blaze was giving fire crews real trouble.
The flames broke out at Niagara Lubricant on Chandler Street around 6 am.
The plant makes lubricants, industrial oils and greases, as well as tire care products.
Those substances made it tough for crews to fight the fire with water and a foam truck actually had to be brought in from the nearby Buffalo Airport to help.
There were been several explosions.
Chandler Street is closed to traffic, and power has been cut to the area.
Because the smoke was so thick, it was also causing air quality issues for residents in that area and residents are still being told to stay inside and keep their doors and windows tightly closed.
