Neil Bantleman, the Burlington high school teacher who spent a year behind bars in Indonesia, was back in front of police to answer more questions about the false allegations that led to his arrest. This time police are focusing on the mothers of the children, and the doctors who testified on their behalf.
Bantleman has been battling the Indonesian justice system for more than a year. He was arrested in July 2014, convicted of sexually abusing kindergarten students at the Jakarta International School, and sentenced to ten years in jail. But that conviction was overturned in August.
Today Bantleman was back in police headquarters where he was questioned for 12 hours. Police are now looking at whether the three mothers of the children involved in the case, as well as the physicians who testified at trial, fabricated evidence for financial profit.
The mothers of the children have left Indonesia and are now living in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.
Bantleman remains in Indonesia while the prosecution appeals the acquittal. Neither Bantleman nor his wife Tracy, are speaking publicly until Bantleman returns to Canada.
