India’s PM wraps up Canadian visit

India’s Prime Minister has wrapped up a 3-day visit to Canada on the west coast.
After stops in Ottawa and Toronto, Narendra Modi visited a Sikh temple in Vancouver and then a Hindu temple in Surrey, BC.
While supporters turned out in droves to see Modi at each of his stops, police set up barricades along the street at the Sikh temple to contain protestors who accuse Modi of trampling on human rights.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is calling Modi “a great admirer and a great friend of Canada,” adding he appreciates the Indian leader’s vision, character and capabilities.
Yesterday afternoon the two leaders toured a museum dedicated to nearly 400 Indians, mostly Sikhs, who were denied entry when they arrived in Vancouver seeking a better life in 1914.
Modi is the first Indian prime minister in more than four decades to come for a one-on-one visit with his Canadian counterpart.
