Startling new research confirms at least 3,000 children have died at Indian residential schools in Canada.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission says diseases like the Spanish flu and tuberculosis account for most of the deaths, but some students died from accident or abuse. The report says the number could rise even further as more documents, like government archives, are released. Officials say most of the dead children have been identified, although 500 remain nameless.
