Ikea is scrapping its annual catalogue.

The Swedish retailer says the increasing shift to online browsing and shopping played a major part in the decision.

Last year, Ikea Canada saw online retail increase by 41.9 per cent as the website saw more than 178.5 million visitors

The first Ikea catalogue was released in Swedish in 1951. At its peak in 2016, the company printed 200 million copies in 32 languages.

The 2021 catalogue, released this past summer, will be the final one. But Ikea plans to release a smaller book with “home furnishing inspirations” next year.
