IceDogs outscore Ottawa 67’s, 5-3

The Niagara IceDogs welcomed the Ottawa 67’s to the Meridian Centre on Friday night for the first of four meetings between the teams this season.
The first period was played conservatively by both teams until Ottawa skated to a 1-0 lead less than 60 seconds into the second period.
Niagara quickly responded in the third period with veteran Aaron Haydon who managed a breakaway pass from Chris Paquette and turned it into a goal for his 4th of the season. The point tied the game at one.
Minutes later, Matthew Philip buried his 6th of the year from Ryan Mantha to give the IceDogs a 2-1 lead.
Ottawa was able to quickly bounce back with two goals, taking a 3-2 lead but the IceDogs kept the momentum going with Ondrej Machala scoring his third of the season to tie the game at three.
Seconds later, Philip potted his second of the night to put the IceDogs ahead 4-3 and Aaron Haydon added an empty netter as the IceDogs completed the comeback from 1-0 and 3-2 deficits in the third period to win by a score of 5-3.
The Niagara IceDogs are back at home Saturday night to host the London Knights at the Meridian Centre. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
