IBM comes to Hamilton

Big news for Hamilton.

The Stelco Tower is expected to house one of the World’s biggest tech companies.

CHCH News has learned that IBM may be bringing its ‘Watson’ technology to the city.

The super computer might sound familiar, it was made popular when it won Jeorpardy a few years ago but instead of answering game show question, this version would be used to improve Health Services in Hamilton..

100 King Street West is Hamilton’s second tallest building with 26-floors. for the past 20 years, many of those floors have been empty.

IBMs move to the building would not fill up six floors, but it would also give downtown businesses a boost

Researchers at McMaster say they aren’t surprised the tech is coming to a city recognized for it’s clinical work.

The news comes just a week after the Province announced 22-million dollars towards a partnership with IBM canada and Ontario Centres of Excellence.

The move is expected to bring 300 jobs to Hamilton, although it’s unclear if those are new jobs or moved from other IBM facilties.
