Students in the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) will start receiving rapid tests to take home over the winter break.

HWDSB says it will provide students with one package of five tests during the week of Dec. 13 to 17.

Schools will notify families using “School Messenger” on the day that they distribute kits.

The board says the rapid testing kits are in an effort to “provide a safer return to the classroom after the winter break.”

It noted that a student’s participation in the rapid antigen screening is voluntary. It said students are not required to participate in order to return to the classroom after the winter break.

HWDSB recommended that the students conduct the rapid tests every three to four day over the winter break every Monday and Thursday starting Dec. 23, until all five tests have been used.
