Hundreds hit the track to raise money for Ronald McDonald House

Walking the track at Dofasco Park in Stoney Creek for the 10th annual footsteps for families. About 250 people came out to raise money for Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton.

A place where families from out of town can stay when their seriously ill children need to be treated in a nearby hospital. 6 year old Carson from St. Catharines is having fun with his siblings, but this young man has been through a lot.

In 2013 he was born with Hydrocephylis which is water on the brain and he needed to be born at McMaster. His parents Chelsea and Clinton stayed at the house while he had his first brain surgery at just four weeks old.

They stayed a total of three times while Carson underwent medical treatment at McMaster. It allowed them to stay close to the hospital, avoid the cost of a hotel, and be supported during a very difficult time in their lives.

The family says they feel compelled to give back, raising about $50,000 over the last seven years. The goal is to cross the finish line five times, but families complete as many laps as they want, before heading over to the field and enjoying some of the other activities.

Since 2009 the event has raised almost $600,000 for the house. Organizers say donations keep growing every year.
