Hamilton police are looking for a man who fled a crash scene after smashing his SUV into the front of a downtown Hamilton home.
Police say a Hummer drove off Barton Street, onto Oak Avenue and somehow ended up destroying the front of the home. Roarick, his sister, mother and pets were all at home when the crash happened. Even though his sister was in the living room at the time of the crash, no one in the home was injured in the crash.
Christian Smith, who lives next door, was shovelling his walkway when the crash happened but didn’t notice the SUV until it was too late.
Police say the male driver fled the scene after the crash, leaving behind his female passenger who is being questioned by police. Police don’t have a description of the driver yet.
Robert Primerano, who owns the home, thinks speed has always been an issue on Oak Avenue
City engineers are surveying the area before the SUV can be towed away. It’s believed that the vehicle is in fact, keeping the house upright and removing it could cause even more damage to the affected home and the adjacent home.
In the meantime, the family of four and their many pets will stay with relatives until this is all sorted out.
