Humboldt Broncos bus crash tragedy remembered Wednesday

It was four years ago today a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team was hit by a semi-trailer in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, killing 16 players and team staff and injuring 13 others.

Tisdale city manager Joe Day says there will be a tribute and drop-in gathering at the hockey arena where the Broncos play.

The City of Humboldt announced plans last year to build a tribute centre. Plans included a gallery to honour the victims of the April 6, 2018 tragedy.

The 35-million-dollar project also includes an arena, a fitness and physiotherapy area, and a permanent memorial at the site of the crash.

Day says the plan has been bogged down due to feasibility studies and what the final cost could be.

He says preliminary talks are underway with national companies, individuals and levels of government, indicating an interest in donating.

But the official fundraising can’t begin until the feasibility studies are complete.
