Humane society selling discounted cats

If you’re looking for a deal on a cute kitten look no further than the Lincoln County Humane Society. Starting Thursday, cats will be adopted at bargain basement prices. As Lauran Sabourin tells us, they’ll be practically giving them away in the hope they’ll find a good home.
Robert Stewart is at the Lincoln County Humane Society in St. Catharines Tuesday, picking out the cat he’d like to buy on Thursday: “It’s a good deal for the cats. Because a lot will find new homes.”
A good deal for their owners too. Starting Thursday, $25 will buy you a cat, down from $99.
Kevin Strooband is with the Lincoln County Humane Society: “With the $25 you get your cat spayed or neutered, rabies shots, micro chip, pet insurance, dewormed and deflead.”
Sheila Murphy is also looking for a cat: “That’s a wonderful way to get all the cat into great homes I hope.”
Lincoln County takes in thousands of cats every year. They have 100 in the building right now waiting to be adopted. Playful cats, passive cats. Even ones that look like Morris the cat.
It’s easy for find dogs a home. Not so for cats. By offering cats for 25 dollars, the shelter will lose $55-thousand a year.
Kevin: “We want this program to continue. And the only way it can continue is if the public supports us with donations.”
The Lincoln County Humane Society has taken a lot of criticism lately for the number of cats it has to put down.
So this is how we’re responding to the needs of the community to say, let’s find these cats their forever home.
