Hudak reveals plans for provincial transit

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak has revealed plans to cut back the province’s transit plans.

This is the very first time Hudak has revealed what Southern Ontario’s Transit System would look like if he’s elected Premier.

He says he wants to build the downtown relief line, extending the Bloor-Danforth subway in Scarborough, and bringing the Yonge line north to Richmond Hill.

Hudak’s intention to axe parts of Premier Wynne’s $50 billion “big move” plan could include changes to the Hamilton LRT, which is 14km of rapid transit along Main and King from McMaster University to Eastgate Square.

Metrolinx had proposed the Hamilton LRT be 100% funded by new taxes and fees. The cost of new transit projects, including Hamilton’s, was estimated at around $800 million.

Premier Wynne is still on track with her transit-building plan, currently considering a series of tax hikes to raise money needed to pay for the big move.
