Hamilton Police arrest suspect wanted in city’s 5th homicide

UPDATE

Hamilton Police say that 3pm Saturday Dylon Duarte, wanted for first degree murder, was arrested in the area of Grandville Avenue and Delewana Avenue.

Investigators say he was entering a taxi when members of the Major Crime Unit and East End patrol officers made the arrest.

Duarte is expected to make his first court appearance at John Sopinka Court House Sunday at 9am.

Police are still looking for the murder weapon and will continue to canvass the area of the murder.

A 23-year-old Raptors fan was killed Thursday night while celebrating the basketball win in the city’s north end.

Tyquan Brown was celebrating with friends outside a house on Sherman Ave. near Case St. When they were approached by a male who had driven there in a red Volkswagen Jetta.

Police say 20 year-old Dylon Moniz Duarte was upset over a woman and didn’t appreciate her hanging out with this group.

Tyquan was stabbed in the upper chest, he did not know the attacker, who ran to the parked Jetta and took off north on Sherman Ave.

The group chased after Dylon, but were unable to find him.  When police arrived his friends couldn’t find Tyquan, police tracked a blood trail to an alleyway and found him on the ground, they could not revive him.

The suspect’s vehicle was found near Bayfront Park along with a knife.
