Premier Kathleen Wynne reminded people today that she’s always wanted to introduce toll lanes on our highways, and she hopes to learn from the HOV lane experiment during the Pan Am games to make high occupancy toll lanes a reality.

These toll lanes will allow commuters who don’t have any passengers to ride/by pass traffic by paying a fee, similar to the 407.

Currently the temporary HOV lanes in place along 235km of highways between Toronto and Hamilton during the Pan Am games are for vehicles with 3 or more people and Premier Wynne believes that, while many complained, that people’s driving habits are changing.

Wynne believes the toll lanes will help fund the liberals ten year $130-billion transit and infrastructure plan.

It’s too early to know where the lanes will be put, but Mayor Tory says the city will wait on the Provincial government’s plans on where to place the HOT lanes and then work together to create a sensible network for drivers.
