House fire in Hamilton’s east end

Fire has destroyed the basement and kitchen of a home in Hamilton’s east end.

The daughter of a woman living there saw heavy smoke and flames in the basement when she came down for a late night snack. Both were able to get out safely with their dog before calling 9-1-1.

An electrical problem is believed to have sparked the fire, which caused about $150,000 damage.
