House fire in downtown Hamilton

A dozen fire trucks responded to a blaze on Queen Street South at Hunter Street in Hamilton just after one this morning.

There was a lot of smoke, but flames could be seen on the second floor porch, which is at the back of the home. Fire crews believe that’s where the blaze began.

When they arrived, the man living in the upstairs unit was at the front window calling for help. Fire crews rescued the man from the burning building and he was taken to hospital.

The fire is under investigation.
