House Democrats craft case against Trump as second impeachment trial continues

Wednesday was the first full day of arguments at the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump.

House Democrats presented security footage, social media videos, police radio calls and Trump’s own Twitter posts and accused the former president of failing to call off rioters and stop the violence at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump is charged with “incitement of insurrection” in the deadly siege on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Texas Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro says despite multiple please to do so, Trump did not deploy the National Guard or any other law enforcement to help overwhelmed Capitol Police, saying Trump “left everyone in this Capitol for dead.”

Trump’s defence lawyers will present their arguments Friday and Saturday.
