House of Commons resumes

The city of Ottawa continues to mourn this afternoon, a day after the deadly shooting at the war memorial there.

Members of parliament returned to the House of Commons today in a show of unity, following Wednesday”s tragic shooting.  Sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers, who was among security officials who shot the gunman in centre block, was given an emotional standing ovation.

The standing ovation lasted around two and a half minutes, and was followed by MP’s and the prime minister singing Oh Canada. There was also a moment of silence for Corporal Nathan Cirillo who was killed at the National War Memorial yesterday. Prime minister Stephen Harper opened by thanking Cirillo, and all of Canada’s heroes.
