A father and son are in hospital and several horse owners are in a state of panic, after an overnight fire destroyed a farmhouse in Ancaster.

Around 17 emergency units battled the blaze at Powerline Road near Highway 52 early this morning. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but fire crews think it started in the basement.

The roof collapsed on the home, where two family members were inside, along with several pets. A stable of horses behind the farmhouse was not harmed in the fire, but the water for the horses still hasn’t been restored. Damage is pegged at $300,000.
