Far and away the best Canadian film of the year, Xavier Dolan’s Mommy is available to own this week. The Jury Prize winning effort from the young director came up short in the Best Foreign Film Academy Award race, but took home 9 trophies at this year’s Canadian Screen Awards. With the awards season wrapped up, Dolan can now focus on his first English language feature The Death and Life of John F. Donovan starring Kit Harrington, Jessica Chastain, Susan Sarandon, and Kathy Bates.

Biblical epics were a hot ticket last year with Darren Aronofsky’s Noah opening in the Spring, and Ridley Scott’s Exodus following in December. But even with the gap between releases, the two films were destined to be compared to one another – a comparison that leans in Noah’s favour. Exodus is getting released in 2d and 3d editions with special features like The Exodus Historical Guide: a Feature length Trivia Track, nine deleted scenes, and commentary from Ridley Scott.

It’s becoming common practise in animation to spin-off secondary characters into new franchises. Shrek led to Puss and Boots, Despicable Me created Minions, and for the Madagascar series the Penguins were selected for starring roles. Penguins of Madagascar had a tough time at the box office, getting released one week after Mockingjay Part 1, but it still made $365-million worldwide. Features include the above Penguin Shake instructional video from Twitch, deleted scenes, the Top Secret Guide to Becoming an Elite Agent, and music videos.
