Jolie wrote, produced, directed, and starred in this film about a couple who try to reconcile their relationship during a vacation in France. Jolie stated at the film’s premiere that “at it’s core, (it’s) about grief and that grief comes from the loss of my mother.” Being more of an arthouse film, By the Sea only made $3.3M worldwide against its reported $10M budget. Critics applauded the film’s art direction but didn’t have many good things to say about it’s narrative, leaving it with a 33% Rotten Tomato rating. Three pieces of additional content are featured including deleted scenes, “Making By the Sea”, and “Gena Rowlands: An Inspiration”.
Sitting at a slightly higher Rotten Tomato score of 38%, Mr. Right is an obnoxiously quirky romantic comedy about an eccentric woman (Anna Kendrick) who falls in love with a hitman (Sam Rockwell). The film has made a beeline for home video having only opened in Canada at the end of May. Fans of Kendrick and Rockwell might get a kick out of their chemistry, but otherwise this film may not be right for you. The lone special feature is a one minute clip called “A Sweet Couple” featuring Anna Kendrick recounting the film’s basic premise.
